Fitness That Grows With You
By Michelle, Keep Fit with Michelle – Redditch
If you’re a woman in your forties, fifties, sixties or beyond, you may have noticed that your relationship with exercise has changed.
Perhaps the workouts you enjoyed years ago don’t feel quite right anymore. Maybe you’ve lost confidence after a long break, experienced an injury, or found that menopause has changed how your body responds to exercise.
If any of that sounds familiar, you’re not alone.
As a woman in my fifties, I’ve experienced many of the same life changes myself. I’ve balanced family life, work, stress, changing hormones and all the ups and downs that come with getting older. Those experiences haven’t just shaped me as a person—they’ve shaped the way I teach fitness.
Exercise Isn’t About Perfection
One of the biggest misconceptions about fitness is that it’s only for people who are already fit.
I couldn’t disagree more.
The women who come to my classes in Redditch aren’t training to become athletes.
They’re looking to feel stronger.
They want more energy.
They want to improve their balance and mobility.
They want to keep up with grandchildren, enjoy holidays, stay independent and simply feel good in their own bodies again.
That’s what fitness should be about.
Not chasing perfection.
Not comparing yourself to anyone else.
Just becoming a little stronger than yesterday.
Why Midlife Fitness Matters
As we get older, regular movement becomes even more important.
Exercise can help to:
- Improve strength and muscle tone.
- Support healthy bones.
- Improve balance and reduce the risk of falls.
- Boost mood and confidence.
- Increase energy levels.
- Support heart health.
- Help manage stress and improve sleep.
- Maintain independence as we age.
The goal isn’t to exercise harder.
The goal is to exercise smarter.
That’s why every exercise in my classes can be adapted to suit different fitness levels and abilities.
A Friendly Fitness Community in Redditch
Walking into a fitness class for the first time can feel daunting.
I completely understand that.
That’s why I’ve worked hard to create classes where everyone feels welcome from day one.
There are no mirrors to judge yourself against.
No pressure to keep up.
No expectation that you have to be “fit enough” before you arrive.
Just friendly faces, plenty of encouragement and the reassurance that you’re not doing this alone.
Many of the women who join my classes tell me they’ve gained much more than improved fitness.
They’ve made friends.
They’ve grown in confidence.
They’ve discovered that exercise can actually be enjoyable.
For me, that’s just as important.
More Than Exercise
I genuinely believe that movement has the power to improve lives.
Not because it changes how we look.
But because it changes how we feel.
When you feel stronger physically, you often become stronger mentally too.
You begin saying “yes” to things you might once have avoided.
You walk taller.
You feel more confident.
You realise that getting older doesn’t mean giving up—it means looking after yourself in new ways.
