“Michelle… I’d love to come, but I’m not fit enough.”

If I had £1 for every time someone said those words to me, I’d probably have enough to buy everyone in class a coffee!

It’s one of the biggest reasons people put off starting exercise.

They imagine everyone else is fitter.

They worry they’ll be left behind.

They think they’ll be the only beginner.

And because of those worries, they never take that first step.

The truth?

Almost every regular member in my classes started exactly the same way.

Nobody Starts Because They’re Already Fit

This is something I wish more people understood.

People don’t join a fitness class because they’re already fit.

They join because they want to feel stronger, healthier and more confident.

Whether you’ve exercised all your life or haven’t done any structured exercise for years, everyone starts somewhere.

The only difference between someone who’s been coming for five years and someone who’s coming for the first time is that they walked through the door.

The Biggest Fitness Myths I Hear

Myth 1 “Everyone will be watching me.”

I promise you…

They won’t!

Everyone is far too busy concentrating on their own movements, remembering which exercise comes next or simply enjoying the class.

In fact, you’ll probably find people smiling and introducing themselves rather than judging you.

That’s one of the things I love most about our community.

Myth 2 “I won’t be able to keep up.”

This is probably the biggest worry of all.

The good news is…

You don’t have to.

Every class is designed so you can work at your own pace.

Some people use lighter weights.

Some take a little longer between exercises.

Others choose alternative movements.

That’s completely normal.

Fitness isn’t about keeping up with the person next to you.

It’s about becoming a little stronger than you were yesterday.

Myth 3 “I’m too old.”

Absolutely not.

One of the wonderful things about community fitness is seeing women and men of different ages exercising together.

Strength, balance and mobility become even more important as we get older, and it’s never too late to start improving them.

I’ve seen people discover a love of exercise in their 50s, 60s and beyond.

Myth 4 “I need to lose weight before I join.”

This one always makes me smile.

Joining a fitness class isn’t the reward for getting fitter.

It’s one of the ways you become fitter.

You don’t have to change yourself before coming through the door.

You simply need to make the decision to start.

You’re Not Joining a Gym…

You’re Joining a Community

One of the things I’m most proud of isn’t the exercises we do.

It’s the atmosphere we’ve created together.

My classes are full of encouragement, laughter and people supporting one another.

Many of my members tell me they were nervous before their first class.

Now they look forward to seeing their friends every week just as much as they enjoy the exercise.

That sense of belonging is something really special.

The Hardest Part…

Is Walking Through the Door

I completely understand how daunting it can feel to try something new.

Walking into a room where you don’t know anyone can be intimidating.

But here’s something I’d love you to remember…

Every single person in that room was new once.

They all wondered if they were fit enough.

They all had that little voice telling them they might not belong.

Now they’re part of a friendly, supportive community that’s helping each other become stronger every week.

Ready to Take the First Step?

If you’ve been thinking about joining a fitness class but you’ve been waiting until you’re “fit enough”…

Please stop waiting.

Fitness isn’t about being the strongest person in the room.

It’s about becoming the strongest version of yourself.

Whether you’re interested in Pilates, strength training or simply moving more, you’ll always receive a warm welcome at Keep Fit with Michelle.

💗 The hardest part is walking through the door for the first time. I’ll help with everything after that.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be fit before joining a fitness class?

No. Fitness classes are designed to help you improve your fitness over time. Everyone starts somewhere, and beginners are always welcome.

What if I can’t keep up?

You don’t need to. Every exercise can be adapted to suit your ability, and you’ll be encouraged to work at your own pace.

What should I wear to my first class?

Comfortable clothing you can move in, supportive trainers (where appropriate), a bottle of water and a smile! Everything else can be explained when you arrive.

Will everyone else be fitter than me?

Probably not. Every class has a mix of abilities, and everyone remembers what it was like to be new. You’ll find encouragement, not judgement.

Which class should I start with?
